POSITION: ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST
Department: Client Accounting Services

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
50% -
- Preparing payments and recording manual transactions
- Electronic import and export of client data
- Preparing sales tax returns, reconciling cash and preparing bank reconciliations
- Entering of bills
- Payroll
- Assisting clients with QuickBooks needs

- Building relationships within the firm
- Becoming familiar with and supporting firm processes and procedures

Participating in applicable internal continuing education programs
- Assisting in administrative functions and completing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education – Associate’s degree in Accounting or diploma in Accounting is preferred
Knowledge – Basic accounting and bookkeeping skills, QuickBooks knowledge and familiarity
Skills – Judgment, accountability, planning, goal setting/accomplishment, excellent people skills to interact with clients and firm members, outstanding communication skills, initiative, positive attitude, team oriented, efficient, and proficient in Word, Excel and online research
Experience – Prior work experience is preferred
Exams – In pursuit of QuickBooks ProAdvisor

- Prepares paperwork for local, state and federal level returns
- Assists with work on financial statements
- Assists Supervisor with delivery of client service and maintains profitable client relationships
- Begins to oversee the work of Staff Accountants as applicable
- Is in the process of developing networking relationships and is a part of applicable networking groups

- Keeps current on all CPE requirements and applicable law changes/updates
- Builds relationships within the firm and encourages Staff Accountants to do the same
- Becomes familiar with firm processes and procedure

- Assists in administrative functions and completes other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education – Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge – Federal, state, and local level regulations, proficiency in use of computer tax preparation, research, and tax planning software programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Prepares complex tax returns and tax planning with minimal supervision
- Oversees the efforts of multiple client engagements with the ability to manage the engagements to budget
- Conducts advanced tax research
- Gains an understanding of client operations and business objectives
- Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, and lead change efforts effectively
- Manages, develops, trains, and mentors staff on projects and assesses performance for engagement and quarterly reviews
- Is active with networking relationships and is a part of applicable networking groups

- Leads development of internal training modules and provides training to seniors and associates

BUSY SEASON INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
MHCS offers internship opportunities during our busy season. Interns will gain valuable experience during their time with the firm that is similar to what a Staff Accountant gains their first year with us. Eligible candidates will be Accounting majors who have completed their junior or senior year, have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher, be interested in public accounting after graduation, possess excellent communication and computer skills, and be client focused. Internships can be either full-time or part-time. We are willing to be flexible with school schedules. Recruiting for this opportunity begins in the fall each year. Decisions regarding what candidates will be chosen for the internship positions will be decided by December. 1st. Interns will join the firm in mid-January and the internship will conclude April 15th.
SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM | Positions available beginning Summer 2023
Overview of Program:
- Two day program to experience MHCS on a professional and personal level
- Participants will get to tour client sites and spend time with industry leaders
- Participants will get an overview of the varying departments within MHCS
- Participants will leave with a better understanding of public accounting and specifically, MHCS
- Enjoy fun activities in the evening to bond together as a group and get to know MHCS firm members better
- Participants will be housed in a hotel for two nights while participating in the program
- Participants will get priority consideration for busy season internships in either Tax or Audit
Candidate Eligibility:
- Students must be enrolled in the Accounting major
- Students should be within two years of graduation
- Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must be interested in public accounting after graduation
- Must have excellent communication and computer skills
- Must be client focused
